Embracing Concert

UMS Recital Hall, 7:30pm.

Jesselton Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 2007 for instrumentalists of all levels in Sabah, Malaysia. In 2012, with generous commitments from sponsors, instrument donors, and volunteer professional musicians in Malaysia and abroad, JPO launched its annual Outreach & Education program with free concerts and masterclasses for all participants. Corollary to such dedicated support is the positive expansion of our regular teachings to more than 155 students in underserved communities, schools, and youth homes throughout ASEAN region.

In their notable 12th year, thanks to their committed sponsors and volunteers, their annual Music Festival was held from December 3rd to the 6th, ending with their finale fundraising concert at University Malaysia Sabah recital hall. Internationally renowned volunteer-maestros, soprano, tenor from Korea and violinist from Singapore, performed on the evening with 170 of their musicians, including volunteer musicians-teachers from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore & Ipoh. A special violin by their volunteer luthier, Shotaro Nishimura from Cremona, Italy, debuted in this concert.

It is noteworthy to mention that these international guests all contributed their talents, time, and travel expenses, ex gratia.
